I am told that Islamic Help’s energetic fundraising for their Pendle Boarding School for Girls produced just £2,000 despite being up there on their website for months. We were previously led to believe they had received about £10,000 for the project which the Charity Commission ruled was for a purpose outside their charitable objects. They were told to give the money back. This has got me thinking. When charities appeal for funds using their websites, why not ask them to put up one of those little thermometers which, month by month, show how much money is coming in for their various appeals. I suppose £2,000 – which is a tad underwhelming - says something about how donors viewed the boarding school project. I shall be meeting the trustees of Islamic Help shortly.
