I am relaxing with a cold Alexander Keith's in one hand and a bowl of nuts in the other. I am watching Peter Mansbridge, the anchor on the CBC’s flagship news and current affairs programme, The National. It went out last night (20 May) For millions of Canadians it is required viewing. I, too, enjoy it. Now I hear the dread words “MPs’ expenses”. Aaaaaargh! I almost spill my beer! I drop my cashews! The scandal spreads to North America like a spreading stain. First MPs in Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s atlantic provinces, are accused of using taxpayers’ money for inappropriate purposes. You know the kind of thing. Giant flat screen televisions. Air conditioning units. Now the drama moves to the capital, Ottawa, where the Auditor General of Canada wants to check MPs’ expenses. The MPs say no. That's the back story. Now, watch this. And here is the political pundit, Rex Murphy, putting the boot into MPs. Enjoy!
